Windows Vista - what a disaster.
Windows Vista is a disaster. I work in IT myself as an SQL developer. Recently in a presentation our IT director said that they would be leaving Vista well alone for the forseeable future. In other words she said the company won't be touching it with a bargepole.
I have a Windows Vista laptop, about 6 months old. It's not top of the range but it's 'Certified' for Vista. It runs Vista Home Premium. The laptop has 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an Intel Celeron 1.73 GHz cpu and a 80GB SATA hard drive.
The laptop takes almost as twice as long to boot and get to desktop as my 4 year old desktop PC with 512MB RAM, a Athlon XP 2500 CPU and a 80GB IDE hard drive. My desktop PC runs Opensuse 10.3 Linux.
Vista is fat and heavy. It's bloated, sluggish and ackward. It is simply not worth the purchase or upgrade. Do not fall for the clever marketing that tells you to get rid of perfectly good PC's so you can install Vista, it is simply not worth it.
Below are stories and articles on the net which tell of similiar attitude in both home and business use and which illustrate just how much hype has been involved in the propping up and promotion of this 2nd class piece of software. And how much people are now beginning to realize that there are better, more viable, alternatives.
