Windows Vista - the alternatives.
As you've gathered by now, Windows Vista is complete rubbish. Thankfully, there are better alternatives.
Windows XP- if you are currently using Windows XP then DO NOT upgrade! You will thank me for it. Read some of the articles on the evidence page and you will see that some manufacturers are actually giving Vista users the option to go back to XP.
Apple Mac - totally cool but can be expensive. Will look excellent as a stylish item in your home. Find out why a Mac is better than a Windows PC here.
I've left the best till last - Linux.
I use Linux so I'm showing my cards now. I used to use Windows XP but moved to Linux as I was fed up with XP crashing. It's the best thing I ever done. My wife uses a Windows Vista laptop which is how I can testify as to how useless Vista is and how good Linux is.
You can do 100% of the things that you do on windows on Linux. And you can do them better. And even better most Linux is free. As in free air or free beer.
There are different 'flavours' of Linux. For flavours we really mean 'brands'. Different people and companies can make Linux. You can create Linux if you want.
I mentioned different brands of Linux. Linux heads also use the word 'distros' which is short for distributions.
If you a new to Linux then a good distro to start with is PCLinuxOS.
I use OpenSuse. Again this is free.
Another good distro is Ubuntu. This is very popular but I personally prefer OpenSuse.
